The California Department of Forestry places their Ranger Units into Regions. There are four regions in the state and anywere from five to seven ranger units. The first two numbers of the ID to a unit within a ranger unit specify the region and the ranger unit number. For example by hearing 3588, you know that it belongs to region 3 and ranger unit 5. Witch would tell you it belongs to the San Bernardino ranger unit.
